What is Matcha? and What is Matcha Taste Like?

My trip to Japan made me a great fan of matcha. Matcha ice cream, matcha doughnuts, matcha smoothies are among some of the variations of matcha. It has a slightly bitter undertaste and blends well with the coconut milk and turns creamy. In japan, matcha lattes in coffee shops contain too much sugar, that is why, it is better for me to make the matcha latte at home.

What is Matcha?

Matcha powder is grounded green tea leaves containing their stem and veins. It is said that with ordinary green tea, you only ‘swallow’ the tea leaves, but you actually ‘drink’ the tea leaf with matcha latte. Matcha is reported to be 10 times nutrient dense as the normal green tea. People love it because it tastes good but companies serve it as completely healthy products.

What is Matcha Taste Like?

Matcha is another type of tea and it is different because of its green colour and it has a sweet, salty and slightly bitter taste. Its taste is quite similar to the umami flavor which one gets when eating broths or soy sauce and has a slight green, earthy, hint to it. When consuming matcha, one can tell the bitterness is coming from the catechins and that is accompanied slightly with natural sweetness, depending on the quality of the matcha.

Buying Matcha Powder:

While selecting matcha for the first time, one can get confused among the matcha brands.
